The FEMA Individual and Community Preparedness Division (ICPD) invites our colleagues and partners in the National Capitol Region (NCR) to join us Thursday, August 23 at 10:30 a.m. at the Washington Monument as we kickoff National Preparedness Month! We hope you will join us, and we promise the weather will be near perfect for a mid-morning stroll!
Commemorating the one year anniversary of the NCR's M5.8 earthquake, leadership from FEMA, Virginia, Maryland, District of Columbia, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and the National Park Service (NPS) will hold a press conference to share lessons learned, discuss current seismic readings, and provide details on the upcoming NCR ShakeOut earthquake drill. Tim Manning, FEMA Deputy Administrator for Protection and National Preparedness and David Miller, Associate Administrator, Federal Insurance and Mitigation Division will deliver remarks on the importance of preparedness, the need for planned communications during a disaster, and the value of mitigation to secure our infrastructure.
