College Park Squadron (Civil Air Patrol)

Civil Air Patrol (official civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force) is a nonprofit group of over 1,500 members in MD. CAP conducts 90% of search/ rescue missions for the USAF & flew 42 search/ rescue missions w/ 31 finds in MD & performs homeland security & disaster relief missions for federal, state & local agencies. CAP's Cadet Program allows youth 12-18 to progress self-paced in program of aviation, leadership training & physical fitness. Cadets compete for academic scholarships in engineering, science, aircraft mechanics, aerospace medicine, meteorology & others. There is no military obligation,but, if a Cadet joins the military they may enter at a higher rank. If its flight training, computers, communications, photography, survival training, astronomy-there's a place for you in CAP. Cadets have the chance to solo fly an plane at flight schools; others may travel abroad w/ the International Air Cadet Exchange. Cadets receive their uniform free & learning materials.
